Unisa Registration and Assessment Changes in 2021

The University of South Africa (UNISA) announced multiple changes made towards registration and assessments for undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate qualifications for the 2021 academic year.

Mass changes to the Unisa registration and assessment for 2021 include:

  • Having only one combined registration period for the 2021 academic year;
  • Changes of assignment dates of the majority of Unisa modules;
  • Changes to the Unisa examination period for 2021.

In early 2020, the university had to implement changes to its programme on to how to proceed with operations without compromising its students.

With experience behind the belt, the university acted swiftly and issued changes early enough in the 2021 registration period to avoid any complications later on.

Only One (1!) Registration Period for 2021

There will be only one available registration for students looking to register to study at Unisa in 2021. This means students will have to register for both Semester 1 and 2 modules before 12 March 2021.

The due date for the minimum initial payment for all modules is on 12 March 2021, with no extension granted for students registering for Semester 2. This means that students will have to pay the full combined minimum registration fee for both Semester 1 and Semester 2 modules by the closing date.

Students writing supplementary exams in January/February 2021 can register for the same modules (including prerequisites and follow-on modules) by 12 March.

Students who pass their supplementary exams will have their affected modules automatically cancelled. Any fees paid beforehand will have their accounts credited. Students who failed and want to cancel their registered module will be liable for cancellation fees in order to cancel the follow-on modules.

Changing of Assignment Dates for the 2021 Academic Year

Assignment dates for all Unisa modules in 2021 will be altered due to the restructuring of the academic year. Submission due dates for assignments are now slated for schedule between the months of May and September.

Updated assignment dates will become available to students via the myUnisa portal from 10 February 2021.

Changes to the 2021 Examination Window

All undergraduate and postgraduate examinations for the 2021 academic year at Unisa will be written during the October/November examination period. The revised examination timetable will become available on the myUnisa portal.

Honours students will write their examinations during the January/February 2022 exam period. Exam dates will be available for students on the myUnisa platform.

Due to Covid-19 regulations, students looking to access their nearest Unisa regional center will have to book in advance. Limited services will be made available and students can book to visit the university online here.

Students studying or preparing to study at Unisa in the 2021 academic year can only register their modules online. Visit the Unisa registration page and register for your modules online here.

    Well this announcement is very detrimental to us only left with 5 modules and who are looking forward to either apply for PLT or seek articles of clerkship, this will delay us unnecessarily. Unisa must give us a choice to choose whether we write on Jun or defer to novemeber

  2. Selina

    So what do i do now bcos i have already registered for only first semester modules?

  3. Ilze O’Neill

    So which Assignment do I submit now for subjects that I registered for “first semester” Semester 1 or 2?

  4. Lesego Lebogang Claudius Matemotja

    I applied in November and haven’t gotten a feedback with a student number so i can track my application processes

    Hi, I’m Rev Luvuyo Patrick Mpambani. I’m a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and a Chaplain in the Saps. I currently have a Diploma in Theology studied with RR Wright theological seminary under the Joint board for a Diploma in Theology. Keep in mind that you have to apply first before you can register for a qualification

  6. Candi

    Thanking my lucky stars that I only have 3 modules left with this university. The experience I have had is completely aweful!

  7. Nomphelo Raziya

    This is so unfair to us with no busaries and study loans…we planned to pay registration fees for 1st semester…2nd semester was never part of our financial plans at this moment, to be told at the end January that you must pay for registation of second semester and that the due date is 12 March…this is too much at least extend the payment of second semester

  8. Mbalie

    Ive applied in September and haven’t get the feedback with a student number

  9. Mercy

    i am left with 1 module. so basically the whole year i will be waiting.

    This is really not fundamental at all. I am left with one module to complete my qualification and Unisa is to be blamed after the system shuttered down last Semester.

    I had to register the module again as I was on supplementary.

    The issue of one long semester is really a serious disaster to majority of students.
